Recs from the Editors - Come What May
Good morning friends,
Though AAPI Heritage Month is coming to an end, (where on earth did May go?) we know that even as the month ends, the work won’t. The work of intersectional praxis, of continuing solidarity between all Black and brown artists, and of ensuring we consistently honor and represent Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander creators in our work.
What follows is a list of people and projects and art we love. Check everything out!!
As always, if you have recommendations for us, give us a shout and we’ll feature them on the blog.
ZELINAONWHEELS: Follow zelina (@zelinaonwheels) as fast as you can for gorgeous skating at golden hour vids and check out the highlights on antiracism. We LOVE to see it.
ALI WONG: Tuca and Bertie is coming back in June! And, of course, her stand up specials and Always Be My Maybe remain gold.
JENNIFER G. LAI: This amazing poem, “WHAT THE KIDS IN SUBTLE ASIAN TRAITS KNOW” was featured on an ep of The Slowdown with Tracy K. Smith, and also in this issue of ANMLY. Give it a read!
MICHELLE ZAUNER: We featured Japanese Breakfast last week, but also pick up a copy of Crying in H Mart, Zauner’s new memoir, which has gotten rave reviews.
T KIRA MAHEALANI MADDEN: whose memoir, Long Live the Tribe of Fatherless Girls came out last year, and who is also editor in chief of No Tokens Journal!
DIANA KHOI NGUYEN: whose book Ghost Of is an extraordinary conjuring.
CATHY PARK HONG: Check out Minor Feelings, which is reportedly being developed into a TV show starring GRETA EFFING LEE?!
ASIAN AMERICAN WRITERS’ WORKSHOP: Follow them on Twitter HERE.
CAAAV: CAAAV works to stop gentrification in predominantly Asian NYC communities, organizing around tenants’ rights and housing justice! Here is their Twitter and GoFundMe!
