MISSION STATEMENT
Founded in 2020, EMERGENT LITERARY is a journal for the work of black and brown artists. We pay homage to the Combahee River Collective, and their foundational work in identity politics and radical liberation. We are inspired by the legacies of Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press, and Broadside Press. We imagine ourselves posted up in a living room with paper strewn across the floor, eating good and in fellowship with one another.
We hope to provide one such living room here, a place of gathering and collaboration. We represent an expansive community: in terms of geography, identity, genre, and concept. We make an ongoing and serious commitment to black and brown people, to fellowship, and joy.
