REQUIEM FOR THE LONELY
KEVIN SCHEEPERS
Solitude of the perennial,
on the cutting-room floor julienne.
Half the family wailing with grief like widowed swans
agitating pellucid lakes;
other half merely dropped in to confirm
with scornful smirks.
Nothing left to do, but close your eyes and hold
hope’s spurious hand.
Slept like a baby, the day was the nightmare,
removes his brain as soon
as he enters the door,
delicately sits it atop the taupe nightstand,
dark depressions embedded in the furrows
like apricot seeds.
